Mounting basics

Mechanical placement, clearance and common mounting mistakes.

Mount the unit on a solid, flat surface directly on the asset, with the label facing up or outwards so the internal GPS and cellular antennas have a clear view. Never enclose it fully in metal: a steel box acts as a shield and both signals suffer.

Mount the Field Unit away from direct impact. The unit is rated for up to 8 g of shock and vibration. On a breaker, use the carrier side or a protected face rather than a position beside the tool. Where debris is unavoidable, use the protective cover, which seats the unit between two shock absorbers.
